Issue Summary
This is reproducible on Data Center: no
The bug affects all the users trying to copy/paste images from a private source, such as a received email in Gmail with pictures attached inline with the email. When pasting such private images into the description of a new Jira issue, or a comment on a existing Jira issue, the private image will appear properly and there is no indication that it will show as "Preview unavailable" to others (or you at a later time) because it is private.
Steps to Reproduce
- Send email to yourself using Gmail web and attach picture in-line
- Open email and copy an image from your private Gmail account using your keyboard.
- Paste that image in the issue description
- Create the issue or paste the content in the comment of an existing issue
Additional information:
- When you copy images from places like a received Gmail email, the image itself is not copied to the clipboard. Rather a private URL to the image is copied which is viewable to you but inaccessible to others for security reasons. This is an industry standard restriction and not Atlassian specific.
- If email you are pasting pics from has pictures loaded via external links (e.g. mail list) then picture will be attached properly to the issue.
- If email has private pics attached to the email (e.g. you receive email with pic attached), then the issue is reproducible.
Expected Results
There is a visual error indication to the user when private images are pasted into a Jira description or comment. Ideally there also will be some guidance in the error on how to copy the image directly so it is visible for all.
Actual Results
The private image will appear properly and there is no indication that it will show as "Preview unavailable" to others (or you at a later time) because it is private.
Workaround
You can download the file and then use the "Files & images" button in the editor toolbar to upload the media.
