Currently, there is no way to set custom default statuses and instead are always defaulted to the following statuses:

• Rough draft
• In progress
• Ready for review

Suggested Solution

Have Confluence admins to be able to set the default statuses for newly created spaces.
*Note: This should also work with/and consider Space imports so that users don't have to manually recreate their statuses in the settings

Workaround

Manually change statuses for each space
